Hey!
Before you start reading, keep in mind that this is an honest review of the NeckFlex’s neck training harness. Because I’m really satisfied with this gear, I personally use it and recommend it. To ensure transparency, you should be informed that I am sponsored by the brand. Just a friendly reminder though, I’m not biased and my evaluation is independent.
NeckFlex Presentation
NeckFlex is an American company that specializes in designing, manufacturing, and distributing neck harnesses for neck training. It is primarily targeted at combat sports and football athletes, but a significant number of clients are using it to build a big neck or to recover from an injury. If you’re unfamiliar with neck training, start here to understand how to build a bigger neck and why it’s beneficial.
After realizing how important a strong neck is for sports in the long run, the co-founders decided to create their own revolutionary harness, which was previously unheard of. Indeed, most neck harnesses were cheap bits of scratched and faux leather. They started their mission in 2012 and haven’t looked back since.
Many professional sports clubs, including the NFL, NASCAR, NBH, UFC, and NCAA, have them as official sponsors.
Seems a bit too good to be true, right? Are they following through on their promises? Let’s have a look.
About The Package Delivery Time
Because they ship worldwide from the United States, it actually depends on where you are. With standard delivery services, it should arrive in around two weeks. The luckiest reports I received took roughly 9-10 days, while others took up to 3 weeks due to logistical issues (mostly in 2020).
Expect a tiny parcel with everything squeezed and folded to maximize efficiency; don’t expect a large package! It’s not like the product is fragile; whatever you buy, it’s extremely durable.
Speaking of which, what products are they selling?
The NeckFlex Harnesses For Neck Training
NeckFlex The Original
The Neckflex Original is their first commercially available neck harness, and it’s fantastic. The harness is manufactured with web nylon and padded neoprene, with welded D-shaped rings on the top, front, rear, and sides to accommodate various work angles. There are also two scratches on the horizontal padding to make it more comfortable and fit your head size and shape. No more too loose or too tight gear!
- In addition to this incredible harness, you receive a 19lbs high quality elastic band with clips on both ends to attach it how and where you like, made of premium latex fabric and just long enough to fit about any height and be properly utilized.
- You also get a door anchor, which is a specific device that is designed to be blocked in a door frame, allowing you to exercise anywhere as long as you have anything to wrap the band around or a door frame to block it in. Yep, perfect for neck training at home!
- If that wasn’t enough, it also comes with a one-year warranty. Great.
- You get a customized tote bag with the brand’s logo on it. Sweet.
- Bonus for the die-hard fans: you receive a logo sticker to put wherever you wish . Nice.
If you don’t know much about neck harness gears, you should know that this has never been done before. Originally, you’d just receive stitched leather and sometimes wool to reduce friction, tiny fragile rings to fasten a band or chain, and no adjustable things to match your liking or head shape. You could only hope for the best and make do, because it was either this or nothing. Literally.
NeckFlex MMB Pro Series – Mike “The Machine” Bruce
This is their second model, which was released following a close collaboration with Mike Bruce, a multiple world record holder in neck strength feats as well as a strongman/wrestling champion.
They designed the MMB Pro Series, named after Mike “The Machine” Bruce’s initials, with his knowledge, their craftmanship, and both of their experiences. It implemented the “dog ears” concept of adding another pair of stronger D rings on each side of the face to train a supplemental angle, as well as attaching a heavy-duty chain for plate loaded and band training.
It’s even sturdier and more durable than the first, allowing for more intense neck training while maintaining the same level of comfort and security. You also get the door anchor, elastic, bag, and little logo sticker, just like the first model. What more could you possibly need?
This is the model I’ve owned and used for nearly two years, and I got nothing but good things to say about it.
NeckFlex Ballistic Kevlar Series
The new and third model of the NeckFlex is the upgraded form of the MMB Pro model with improved durability, versability and comfort. The use of Kevlar threading which is ten times stronger than steel to reinforce the overall structure and layered fleece for more comfort in the padding are the main upgrades.
Just like the MMB Pro model, there are dog ears, PVC patches, heavy duty chain and nylon elastic band provided for maximum efficiency and versatility of use for any kind of neck training exercise. And for the fans, again, a little NeckFlex logo sticker.
Now that we’ve done with the presentations, let’s review the many aspects and ways for demonstrating how well their gears can be used. Again, it will be much easier for you to grasp all of the concepts and points I want to discuss if you first read a bit about the benefits of neck training.
NeckFlex for Neck Fat Loss or “Toning”
Tired of your double chin or sluggish looking neck? Let’s fix your diet first but also start training your neck to tone up the muscles, ligaments, and tendons in the area and make it more active. NeckFlex is an excellent training device for this since it allows you to target your entire neck musculature with easy-to-learn movements and execute exercises while strengthening and toning the zone (which essentially means gaining muscle and losing fat).
Your face, neck, and shoulder region will tighten, tone, and glow up after just a few weeks of training combined with a healthy diet!
How To Use The NeckFlex For A Tree Trunk Neck?
Want a neck so big that the last suit’s button won’t fasten? Or do you have a thin neck that makes you look average, if not frail, despite your training? The NeckFlex allows you to go as big as you want in the safest and most comfortable way possible. If you’re wondering how to start neck training, how many reps you should do or if you’d better train your neck everyday, you’re at the right place.
I recommend doing 2-4 sessions each week, alternating between bands and plates loaded exercises, so band once or twice and plates once or twice. You can just focus on neck extension and neck curl variations if you “only” wish to build a big neck without going for sheer size. However, if you want the biggest neck possible, you must perform all of the neck exercises: extension, flexion, rotation, and side bends (along with good traps-trashing training).
Start slowly and carefully with sets and reps; 3×20-30 will do at first to spur growth while strengthening the bones, tendons, and ligaments while getting you used to training it. After a while, you’ll be able to try with more challenging ones like 5×12 or 4×20. Remember though: safety and proper form come first!
NeckFlex for Prehab/Rehab
Getting into a combat sport or a full-contact sport? Do you want to prevent neck and head injuries? The NeckFlex will help you in conditioning all angles and muscle groups surrounding the cervical spine, ensuring that you are significantly minimizing the odds of concussions, KO’s, TKO’s, zingers, spine injuries, and so on. Multiple studies show that a stronger and bigger neck, such as this one, is more injury resistant, concluding that adding 1lb of neck extensors strength decreases the risks of injury by 5%. See below for the neck size and yard passed correlation in football:
Have you ever suffered a neck injury from football, wrestling, or a car accident, or do you just experience a stiff neck or regular shoulder pain, as well as a general sentiment of tightness and discomfort?
NeckFlex can be used to make everything more mobile, supply blood flow to the regions, relieve nerve stress, strengthen muscles and tendons, densify bones, and train in a very progressive and safe manner with growing difficulty.
When applied to all of the exercises and band training itself that allow for more gentle resistance while your neck will be at its weakest state, the band will not be as hard on your neck, and the stronger the leverage becomes, the stronger the band will pull, all while keeping your neck in a safer position.
As a result, you may rehab, improve, and lessen your neck problems and pains by training it. NeckFlex will help you feel better in your daily life by increasing your neck mobility, flexibilit, and strength.
Why Has The NeckFlex Been a Positive Experience For Me?
Since April 2020, I’ve had the privilege of enjoying one MMB Pro Series harness and have nothing but praise for it.
Given the circumstances at the time, I received it quickly and went straight to work, as I already had everything I needed to train at home. A door or a bar to wrap the band around was all I required.
For almost two months, I used that time to train the neck in “Nucleus Overload” or “High Frequency Approach,” which meant completing 20-25 sets almost every day with the band in all directions. What happened first was that my neck appeared to become more defined and fuller, and at the end of the 2 months neck training, it was 0.5cm (or 1/5 inch) larger, despite the fact that I had lost 5kg/11lbs due to the lack of food and gym access at the time.
I experienced no strength loss when I returned to the gym and did the plate loaded neck exercises; it was more like I wasn’t used to the weight anymore, but I was still strong and much more resilient, and soft tissues did not remain sore as long or as hard as before.
We can also discuss injury and progression concerns in this review.
Before using the NeckFlex, I had a standard… basic… OK, let’s just say it: I had a shitty neck harness and every two or three months, I’d get muscle spasms or cramps in my upper back, which would hurt me all the way up to my cervicals. So, it was similar to when you do too many squats or deadlifts and your low back becomes so weary that it becomes quite tight, affecting your mid back as well.
Well, I never got that problem with the NeckFlex, and I can even go heavier on my neck extension work!
Because the harness is adjustable and the resistance is much more accommodating, adding a rep or two here and there and actually making solid progress is no longer a problem. If you get the MMB Pro or the Tactical Kevlar Neckflex, you’ll get a chain that you can adjust, allowing you to perform progressive ROM work, paused reps, holds, and so on. The same is true with bands; you may just move away from them more and more, improve your negative control, pause at the top, etc. The possibilities are now practically limitless!
Conclusion
So far, NeckFlex has accomplished what no other neck training brand has: designing a safe, efficient, and adaptable neck training harness that can be used by a wide range of people. They keep improving over time by listening to their clients and asking experts from other fields to provide “in the trenches” testimonies, all while adhering to scientific facts and studies on neck training.
I am a genuinely happy and satisfied owner of one of their products and I recommend it whenever I have the opportunity.
